President Edgar Lungu Urged To Enforce Ban On Illegal Levy Collection By Suspected PF Cadres

By Chileshe Mwango

Some members of the public have appealed to President Edgar Lungu to direct army personnel to enforce the ban on cadres’ collection of money from markets and bus stations.

Suspected PF cadres yesterday beat up Buses and Taxi Drivers Association of Zambia National Secretary Sydney Mbewe for speaking against their illegal collection of money from bus drivers.

And contributing to the pulse segment of the Phoenix Breakfast show this morning, the public feel the ban will not yield any positive results due to what they say is the lack of a political will over the matter.

The concerned citizens are of the view that the president’s directive has been disregarded by cadres as they have continued with the trend and beat up individuals ensuring the implementation of this ban.

They have since expressed their disgust over the continued violence by the suspected PF cadres saying the party leadership has failed to discipline them.

Meanwhile, transport and communication minister Mutotwa Kafwaya has noted that the culture of political violence is destroying the country.

Mr. Kafwaya says there is need to get rid of violence adding that Mr. Mbewe’s move to sanitize the bus stations should not be met with any form of violence.
