Power to have a busy December…Set to play 3 games in seven days
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has decided to reduce the possible fixture congestion involving Power Dynamos by letting them play some of their games during the break.
Power is expected to have a number of their players on international duty during the 2020 CHAN tournament which will take place from January 1st up to February 10th in Cameroun.
According to a communiqué from Zambian Premier League interim CEO, Brian Mulenga several realigned matches will take place between December 23rd and December 30th to avoid possible fixture congestion and a backlog of games.
The men’s Senior National Team will be away on National Duty from January 1st up to February 10th in Cameroun preparing for and playing in the CHAN 2021 tournament. has If Power Dynamos elect to invoke their option not to play any fixtures due to players being on international duty they will miss all the fixtures starting from January 1st to January 30 for the group stage and up to February 10th if they reach the final.
“This would mean Power Dynamos will miss Week 12 to Week 17 as scheduled or 6 fixtures as well as 2 rearranged fixtures and accumulate a backlog of 8 fixtures. This would subject Power Dynamos to a 9-week schedule where the team will play every midweek and weekend and would automatically rule the club out of the ABSA Cup.”
So to ensure this backlog is reduced to manageable levels FAZ has decided that the following fixtures will be played:
December 23rd, 2020
Week 7, Match 55,
Power Dynamos vs. Forest Rangers
December 26th, 2020
Week 13, Match 109,
Power Dynamos vs. ZANACO
Week 9, Match 75,
Kabwe Warriors vs. Forest Rangers
Week 7, Match 56,
Indeni vs. Green Eagles
December 30th,2020
Week 14, Match 118, ZESCO United vs. Power Dynamos
Furthermore should the CHAN team return after the group stage Power Dynamos will play the following matches on the following dates:-
February 10th,2021
Week 15, Match 127,
Power Dynamos vs. Green Buffaloes
February 17th, 2021
Week 16, Match 136,
Lusaka Dynamos vs. Power Dynamos
February 24th,2021
Week 17, Match 145,
Power Dynamos vs. Kitwe United
And if the CHAN team reaches the final Power Dynamos will play these fixtures on February 17th, 24th, and March 3rd, 2021 respectively.
FAZ has further advised teams affected by having three or more players in the CHAN squad to play their games between 1st January and February 14th.
“We would urge Power Dynamos and any other teams adversely affected by selection of three or more players for national duty during CHAN and the preparations for CHAN to elect to play some or all of their fixtures during the period 1st January 2021 to February 14, 2021, as scheduled to reduce on their backlog and render some or some of these arrangements unnecessary.”
All other fixtures, scheduled or rescheduled, not affected by these arrangements will be played as per previous announcements and notifications.
