Political parties gear up for Mongu Council Chairperson by election

Hector Simfukwe-Socialist party Secretary General COSMAS MUSUMALI says his party has started identifying a candidate to take part in the Mongu Council Chairperson by-election.

Dr. MUSUMALI says party members at the local level have been asked to propose names of individuals who can represent the party in the by-election.

He told ZNBC News that the party top leadership will not impose a candidate on the people.

Meanwhile, UPND Secretary General BATUKE IMENDA said his party will pick a candidate who is development oriented to represent the people of Mongu.

Mr. IMENDA said he is currently in Mongu engaging the grassroot on the same matter.

He says the UPND wants a candidate who is hard working and has respect for the people.

And, Patriotic Front – PF -Spokesperson ANTONIO MWANZA said the Party Central Committee will tomorrow seat to look into the matter of adoption.

Mr. MWANZA said his party will adopt a popular candidate that will save the people of Mongu.

The by-election is as a result of the death of the Mayor of Mongu MATAKALA NYAMBE who died in a road accident in Mkushi area.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has set APRIL 7th, 2022 as date for the by-election.
