Police arrest man who allegedly run over a police officer in Kabwe

POLICE in Lusaka have arrested a 30 year old man by the the name of Cranos Zambia for allegedly having hit a police officer in Kabwe on Friday last week.

It is believed that Zambi of Makeni area on 22nd July 2016 around 16:00hrs allegedly hit a police officer identified as Sergeant Sililo Mukela of Mobile Unit police in Kabwe who was deployed at Kapiri Mposhi turn-off on Presidential duties.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has disclosed that the accident happened along the Great North Road by Kapiri Mposhi robots when the driver of a Honda fit unregistered which was coming from East to West lost control due to excessive speed.

“The driver after losing control went to hit the left side of the road and thereby hit a police officer who was standing on the yellow line,” Hamoonga said.

“He sustained a cut on the head, fractured left leg and right arm.”

Hamoonga says the police officer was admitted to Kabwe General Hospital where he later died on Saturday 23rd 2016 at around 03:00hrs.

“An autopsy was conducted today July 26th and the body has since been hurried, ” said Hamoonga.

He has further disclosed that the drive is in police custody and has since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Hamoonga also says the driver is therefore scheduled to appear in court soon.
