By Patricia Mbewe

The Patriotic Front has clarified the impression created in some sections of society that the party through its Secretary General, Davies Mwila recommended for the deletion of the Christian nation clause from the republican constitution.

Party Media Director, Sunday Chanda says this is a misrepresentation of the submission made by the party secretary general to the select committee.

Mr. Chanda tells Phoenix News that President Edgar Lungu has repeatedly reaffirmed the pf’s allegiance to the lordship of Jesus Christ over the nation of Zambia and has in the same vein committed that under the patriotic front, Zambia shall remain a Christian nation as enshrined in the preamble of the republican constitution.

He explains that the PF Central Committee resolved to and as communicated by the secretary general in its submission therefore remains committed to ensuring the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation as captured in the constitution of Zambia Act No. 2 of 2016 is not tampered with.

Yesterday, the opposition Movement for National Transformation –MNT- challenged the PF to tell the nation where it is taking the country in regard to gay rights as human rights, and concerning the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation.

Party president Daniel Shimunza said this following reports that the PF through its Secretary General, Davies Mwila appearing before the parliamentary committee submitted that, “the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation, must be deleted from the constitution.
