Paybills.co.zm helps Zambians save time with online payment service

The convenience of being able to pay for your utility bills using your mobile phone or computer is new to Zambians but a huge time saver. For example, queuing and driving to Zesco to buy electricity units is a thing of the past, thanks to the new online payment service, paybills.co.zm.

Other products such as airtime across all networks can now be bought online, bringing convenience to Zambians. The Mwebantu media team recently had a chance to meet up with Sam Njuwe, the Cellulant Zambia country manager where he gave insight into their online platform.

“The reason we started this company was to empower Africans. Empower them in the digital space, and this empowerment means giving customers something they can hold onto that drives convenience for them and ease of accessibility, and that they can rely on technology as well. This platform (paybills.co.zm) means customers today have access to pay for their services on the go, and empowers Zambians as it drives convenience and ease of payments by simply accessing a website to make payments, buy airtime, pay for utility bills from the comfort of your location within minutes and without having to physically drive or walk to a location to pay for a bill. This is the biggest benefit of paybills.co.zm for the Zambian market.” said Sam Njuvwe.

Numerous tech-savvy Zambians have used the website to make purchases on the paybills.co.zm website ,which is in partnership with Barclays Bank in Zambia. Barclays is providing the e-commerce payment gateway that has made the paybills.co.zm service possible in Zambia with Cellulant.

“I am a preacher of technology. I think Paybills is a very interesting platform. It will tap into 2,4 million Visa card users in Zambia, and that is the addressable market we are looking at. And it is a technology we have built together with Barclays Bank and we will continuously grow to meet and reach the customers. We are definitely here to stay, we have just started the work and we will build on that to bring more services onto the platform and to empower the Zambian market so that technology serves them and improves their lifestyle and experience.” said Sam Njuvwe in a message to Cellulant customers.

In Africa, Cellulant is a leading payments ecosystem on the continent, which currently connects merchants, banks and mobile operators to more than 40 million customers by providing a one-stop online bill payments and digital commerce service. Founded in 2004, Cellulant is in 10 countries across Africa namely: Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
