Patson Daka: No player is bigger than the team

Zambia’s 1 – 2 away win in Mauritania has received much reaction from football pundits, the fans, football administrators and various stakeholders.

Zambian and Leicester City forward, Patson Daka gave his assessment of the hard-fought win.

“First of all, I would like to say that I am very proud with the performance of the team,” Daka said.

“It was really a tough game, but we showed mental strength, good character and we played as team.”

He added, “We worked for each other and were there to help each other because we know we want to achieve as a team.”

Daka further disclosed that the Chipolopolo had learnt from past experiences and wanted to start the 2022 World Cup qualifiers with a win.

“We have learnt a lot from the previous games we had where we did not utilize the games which we had. Getting the victory was very important for us which we deservedly earned,” the former Red Bull Salzburg man remarked.

Although the first game, Daka acknowledged it is a step in the right direction: “It’s a great feeling and we are all happy to start with a win. We know that we still have a long way to go.”

On confirmation that Enock Mwepu and himself will not play any part in next Tuesday’s clash with Tunisia, Daka was adamant that Chipolopolo technical bench have enough fire power at their disposal.

“It’s a very sad feeling for me and Enock. Because we won’t be part of this amazing group,” Daka lamented.

“The team is bigger than players. We have got a lot of quality players,” he said. “No one player is bigger than the team.”

“We treat each other equal. We know that everyone can deliver at any given time. So, we believe the guys who remain are going to do the required job,” Daka confidently stated.

“They have our support. We may not be part of them physically but spiritually will be supporting them in prayer.”

Furthermore, Patson Daka urged the fans to rally behind the Chipolopolo Boys.

“The fans should continue to believe and support us. They are the ones who keep us going. We appreciate the support that they always give us because it gives us a lot of confidence.”

“We pray that everything will work according to plan next week against Tunisia and we continue this journey which we have started,” Daka concluded.
