OVER 200 FORMER MAAMBA COLLIERIES EMPLOYEES COMPLAIN OVER UNPAID TERMINAL BENEFITS 25 YEARS AFTER THEIR RETRENCHMENT

About 266 former Maamba Collieries employees who have not received their terminal benefits after they were retrenched almost 25 years ago are appealing to President Hakainde Hichilema to come to their aid and help them to get their benefits.
Some of the affected workers talked to by Phoenix News have explained that since their retrenchment in 1998, they have not been given their terminal benefits despite winning the case in the courts of law in 2000.
They have complained that they are living in poverty when Maamba Colliers, the mining firm they worked for is holding on to their money and that some of their colleagues have even died without getting their money.
They are now calling on President Hichilema to help them get their benefits which they say are long overdue.
Efforts to get Maamba Colliers Chief Executive Officer Cyrus Minwalla proved futile by broadcast time as he was not responsive.
