The Zambia Open Community School -ZOCS- says over 156,000 leaners across the country have benefited from the School Feeding Programme from 2016 to 2022.
Speaking during the Annual General meeting in Lusaka this morning, ZOCS Board Chairperson Victor Koyi says the organization is aware that the country has continued to experience hunger crisis which is causing many leaners to miss class as they cannot walk long distances and concentrate in class without food.
Mr. Koyi says to ensure pupils in community schools acquire good grades and stay in class, ZOCS has committed to feeding leaners as part of its school feeding programme.
He has also disclosed that the organization was able to distribute 142,949 teaching and learning materials to community schools, 2,491 bursaries to vulnerable leaners in secondary schools and supported development of 578 early childhood education centers.
And officiating at the event, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Joe Kamoko has hailed ZOCS for complementing the work of government by ensuring development and needs of leaners are met, which sets a standard for quality education in the country.
