Operators and Investors told to work in harmony

Howard-SikwelaTourism and Arts Permanent Secretary Reverend Howard Sikwela has appealed to operators and investors working in the Lower Lupande Game Management Area to work in harmony.

Speaking after visiting Chief Malama of the Chikunda people in Mfuwe at the weekend, Reverend Sikwela says he learnt with sadness that there was a of animosity among the operators thereby negatively affecting the development of the area.

He says all projects established in the area must have the interest of the local community, as they are the owners of the resources.

Earlier, Chief Malama complained of disputes between Kwalata Safaris and Three Rivers Camp.

He said the hunting outfitter was not allowing photographic safari operators to establish lodges in the area thereby prohibiting the much-needed development in his chiefdom.

The chief also complained against another operator who is not allowing other operators to take tourists to the park claiming he had exclusive rights.

Meanwhile Anke Cowan, Director of Kafunta Safaris said her firm brought Three Rivers Camp to the area to contribute to the much needed tourism activity and development in the area.

She says the area was big enough and operators should find a way to have shared activities.
