One person dies in Mkushi Road Traffic Accident

ONE person has died while seven others sustained injuries in an accident which occurred yesterday at about 11:30 hours along the Great North Road.

The accident happened at Chiponya area approximately, 9km north of Mkushi Boma in Mkushi district.

Confirming the development to Mwebantu in Lusaka yesterday, Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said the deceased has been identified as Sergeant Godfridah Nanyangwe Sichula.

The deceased was a police officer under Lusaka Division Headquarters and died on the way to Mkushi hospital.

Katongo narrated that the accident happened when the rear tyre of the motor vehicle, Toyota Prado registration number BAA 6391 which was being driven by Maybin Sichula aged 30 of Zambia National Service , Nyimba, came off hence the driver lost control of the motor vehicle which later overturned several times.

“The injured are Chief Inspector Benedict Sichula aged 40 of Police Service Headquarters – Interpol section who is the husband of the deceased, Peter Sichula aged 28, Flaviano Sichula Angel 29 ,Paul Sichula, Salome Njobu aged 20 , Elizabeth Namwinga aged 78 and Estella Bwalya aged 45.

She said all the injured have been admitted to Mkushi District Hospital.

And Katongo said all the involved belong to the same family and were coming from a funeral in Mpika.

“The body of the deceased is in Mkushi District Hospital Mortuary,” says Katongo.
