Oilseed stakeholders have unanimously agreed to export 100,000 metric tonnes of soya beans owing to increased production.

The Oilseeds stakeholders that included the Grain Traders Association of Zambia – GTAZ, the Poultry Association of Zambia – PAZ, the Dairy Association of Zambia – DAZ, the Crushers of Edible Oils and Refiners Association – CEDORA) and the Zambia National Farmers Union – ZNFU- met for a consultative meeting on the 2022 soya beans marketing window.

ZNFU Media and Public Relations Manager CALVIN KALEYI says the stakeholders based this rationale on the announcement by the Ministry of Agriculture that the country’s estimated production of soya beans is pegged at 475,353 metric Tons in the 2021/2022 farming season.

In a statement today, Mr. KALEYI said the stakeholders further resolved that 230,000 metric tonnes will be used in manufacturing feed and other animal protein while 50,000 metric tonnes will be utilized in the manufacturing of food for human consumption.

He said stakeholders have also recommended to the Ministry of Agriculture to allow one hundred thousand metric tons of soya beans for export through the Grain Traders Association of Zambia.
