Zambian players in South Africa will return to action on Saturday, 8th August following the announcement by the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

PSL chairman Irvin Khoza confirmed the development this morning during a live press briefing.

“We have informed our broadcasters and stakeholders of the return on the 8th of August,” the League chairman announced. We have informed the Gauteng MEC as the province that will be hosting the matches. I phoned the president of SAFA [Danny Jordaan] to inform him that we are resuming on the 8th of August,” Khoza said.

“I also tried to get hold of the Sports Minister [Nathi Mthethwa] but was unable to get hold of him because Mondays are busy. This is a historic moment. At this point in time, I can gladly announce that the 8th of August is a definite goal for the Absa Premiership and GladAfrica Championship.”

“We are resuming on the 8th of August. The first game will be the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, and the last game will be the Nedbank Cup final. It’s all systems go,” he added.

Kick-off times and venues are yet to be announced and games will be played every three days to meet an early September deadline.

Lazarus Kambole’s Kaizer Chiefs are leading the log with Kennedy Mweene’s Mamelodi Sundowns closely in second place while Gamphani Lungu’s Supersport United are eight points away in third place.

Justin Shonga, Austin Muwowo, and Augustine Mulenga who feature for the Buccaneers will look to put in extra work and push for more game time at Orlando Pirates.

Other Zambians in the PSL include Nathan Sinkala at Stellenbosch, Mwape Musonda at Black Leopards, Mwenya Cyril Chibwe, and Salulani Phiri at Polokwane City. Collins Mbesuma, Rodrick Kabwe among others feature for GladAfrica Championship clubs.
