NRFA beats toll fees target by K600m

The National Road Fund Agency -NRFA- collected K2.9 billion from Toll Gates in 2023, exceeding their revenue target of K2.3 billion for that year.

NRFA Public Relations Manager, ALPHONSIUS HAMACHILA says this is compared to the previous year where K2.5 billion was collected.

Mr HAMACHILA told ZNBC News that the Agency processed 26m vehicle transactions at all Toll Gates cross the country in 2023.

This is compared to 24m recorded in the year 2022.

He said 8m transactions were processed from foreign registered motor vehicles resulting in revenue collection of K1 billion , while in 2022 only K2m vehicle transactions were processed of which ,K370m was collected.

Mr. HAMACHILA said the funds were disbursed for road projects and related activities undertaken by the Road Development Agency, Road Transport and Safety Agency and Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

He said most of the funds were being channeled to clearing arrears owed to contractors and consultants.

Major road projects financed during the year included K240m for the upgrading and rehabilitation of selected urban roads in Lusaka, and K87m for the rehabilitation of the Mongu Limulunga Road in Western Province.
