NORTH CHIEFS TO MOBILIZE SUBJECTS TO REGISTER AS VOTERS

(ZANIS) Chiefs in Northern Province have pledged to sensitize their subjects on the need to register as voters in the ongoing registration exercise.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, Chief Fwambo of the Mambwe people of Mbala district said the traditional leaders will be visiting different places to encourage people to register as voters.

Chief Fwambo said it is important for people to go to the nearest registration centers and acquire the document.

The traditional leader has called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- to consider extending the voter registration exercise.

He said the exercise has come in the rain season making it hard for many.

Chief Fwambo further appealed to the commission to consider increasing the number of registration kits in the various registration centers in the province.

The traditional leader said this in Mbala during a meeting for Chiefs drawn from across Northern Province who were being sensitized on the importance of voter registration exercise.

And Northern Province Minister Chungu Bwalya and Patriotic Front -PF- Vice National Chairperson for Mobilization Geoffrey Mwamba also spoke during the meeting.

Mr. Mwamba said it is important for traditional leaders to take a leading role in educating their subjects on the importance of voter registration exercise.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mwamba called on civil servants to encourage people to register as voters.
