NORTEC TO START PRODUCTION OF MINING EQUIPMENT

The Northern Technical College- NORTEC- in Ndola has announced that it will soon start production of equipment to help small scale miners enhance production.

ZANIS reports that NORTEC acting principal, MARTIN KASONSO said the college wants to bring the mining equipment closer to small scale miners.

This was during the graduation ceremony for the virtual training course on gemstone cutting and designing at the Gemstone Processing and Lapidary Training Centre in Ndola

Mr. KASONSO said through the Constituency Development Funds-CDF which government is sending to the institution, the college now has the financial muscle to manufacture the equipment.

And Copperbelt Province Minister, ELISHA MATAMBO has expressed happiness that the objectives of the 8th National Development Plan of enhancing the capacity of small scale miners in value addition are being realised.

Mr. MATAMBO in a speech read on his behalf by Ndola District Commissioner, JOSEPH PHIRI said this will boost export revenue for the country.

Meanwhile, Emerald and Semi Precious Stones Mining Association of Zambia president, VICTOR KALESHA has called on government to empower small scale miners with necessary equipment.
