No Money To Pay Transporters And Agro Dealers As The Delivery Of Inputs Under FISP Risk Further Delays

By Lomphande Muzumi

Agriculture minister Michael Katambo says government has no money to pay the balance owed to agro dealers and transporters engaged in the distribution of farming inputs under the farmer input support program-FISP.

This follows the decision by transporters engaged in the transportation of farming inputs in Chadiza district of eastern province to boycott the distribution exercise citing lack of fuel due to delayed payments.

But the Agriculture Minister has told phoenix news that the distribution of farming inputs will not be hugely affected by government’s failure to pay transporters.

Mr. Katambo has since directed the national coordinator in charge of the FISP to find alternative transporters that will carry on the distribution of inputs to various parts of the country.

On Monday this week, the Chadiza district transporters association chairperson Stanley Sakala told phoenix news in Chipata that his members were facing challenges of fuel due to non-payment by the government for the work done last year and this year.
