NO HUNTING CONCESSIONS

BY BRIAN MWALE

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says government will not sign any hunting concessions because locals are not benefiting.

The President has warned the newly sworn in Ministry of Tourism Permanent Secretary EVANS MUHANGA to be wary of interested parties who will offer him a lot of money to sign hunting concessions.

Speaking when he swore in Seven Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet and Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- National Coordinator, President HICHILEMA called for effective utilization of public resources.

He also advised Permanent Secretaries being controlling officers in Ministries to respect public resources as they belong to citizens.

The President further reiterated his call to the officers to refrain from abusing resources as they chair tender committees.

President HICHILEMA said the meeting of Ministers and Permanent Secretaries which was held on Monday November 29, clearly showed the link between bad leadership and a decline in the economy.

He also advised Former University of Zambia -UNZA- Economics Lecturer and Center for Trade Policy and Development Researcher GABRIEL POLLEN who has gone to DMMU as National Coordinator to be strong as many people were eyeing the unit owing to perceptions of
loose money there.

And President HICHILEMA said he is now upholding his campaign promise of restoring injustices meted on some citizens in the past.

He said among the people appointed are those who were unjustly fired and others who were driven out of the country as economic refugees but are back now to continue where they left from.

The Head of State said some of the people who have been sworn in have been elevated within the civil service.

President HICHILEMA however urged the newly sworn senior government officials to continue working hard and prove that they deserve the jobs.

The Head of State said he did go into prison 15 times to get into office and not serve the masses hence the need to protect public interests.

Those appointed are SIAZONGO SIAKALENGE as Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet in Charge of Finance alongside 4 Permanent Secretaries at Cabinet who include PATRICK MUCHELEKA Special Duties, MWAMBA PENI Remuneration Division, MAINGA KABIKA Gender Division and K
SOBILE KAMWAMBI Public Service Management Division.

Other Permanent Secretaries are NORMAN CHIPAKUPAKU Ministry of Defence and MAAMBO HAMAUNDU Local Government in charge of Administration.
