Nkana back to winning ways as they edge Red Arrows

Record 13 time Zambia Super League returned to winning ways on Thursday afternoon as they edged CAF Confederation Cup campaigners Red Arrows 1-0 at Nkana Stadium.

After a poor start to the season that saw the Beston Chambeshi tutored outfit lose 3-2 to High Flying Nkwazi, the Kitwe based outfit made a turnaround in midweek with a hard-fought win beating the Airmen.

A well-taken second-half free-kick by Gilroy Chimwemwe was the difference handing Nkana maximum points.

Beston Chambeshi was quick to heap praise on his players after the match.

“I think we are happy as a Technical team to see this win, We worked for it. The boys played their lungs out, Red Arrows put up a good fight and played very well. It’s a good win for us at least we know where to start from,” he said.

“We learn football by playing football, Am learning a lot from the players. It’s not easy, New players have to adapt to our style of play and system.”

“We have to plan well, Football is about planning, If we plan well this congestion we will ease it out,” he added.

Meanwhile, Red Arrows boss Chisi Mbewe described the loss as a painful one and wants to get over it quickly as he shifts his focus on the next game.

“I will say it’s a painful loss, looking at how we performed in CAF and this being the first game of the season for us. We just have to reorganize ourselves as quickly as possible because we have another game that is coming ahead of us on Sunday against Green Buffaloes,” he said.

“This loss will be a wake-up call, We have to work on our mistakes, We need to work on our finishing. We played so well in the second half.”

” I think we just don’t need to be talking but work on this in training and be able to improve on our finishing,” he added.

The win is Nkana’s seventh against Arrows in their last 10eetings and last lost to the Airmen in 2016.
