NGOCC SALUTES MOVE TO PLACE GENDER AT VP OFFICE

The Non Governmental Gender Organizations Coordinating Council -NGOCC- is pleased that the gender division has been placed under the Office of the President.

NGOCC Executive Director ENGWASE MWALE has proposed to have a gender division under the office of the President or the Vice President with cabinet representation and a controlling officer.

Ms MWALE said the controlling Officer must have a lean team of gender officers.

She has further proposed that government must immediately facilitate the operationalization of the gender commission.

Ms. MWALE says the women movement is concerned that Zambia only has 13 percent women representation in parliament.

She was speaking when a team from the NGOCC paid a courtesy call on Acting President MUTALE NALUMANGO.

Mrs. NALUMANGO said it is important to communicate on various issues affecting women to see the way forward.

She said the women’s voice represents the whole country because they carry the burden of caring for the whole family.

Meanwhile NGOCC Board Chairperson MARY MULENGA said the country is in good hands with Mrs. NALUMANGO as part of the administration.
