NDC, PF declare victory in Mufulira�s Kasunswa Ward election

Both the opposition NDC and ruling party, Patriotic Front (PF) are optimistic of winning Tuesday’s ward by-election in Kansunswa, Mufulira.

Speaking in separate interviews on the eve of the election with Zambian Eye�correspondent in Mufulira, both parties said they have done everything to scope the election.

PF Vice Chairperson of Mufulira district Emmanuel Sandi also dismissed claims by the opposition that the road works in Kansunswa ward is meant to woo the people to vote for the PF. He said the works have been goingon for sometime and could not be stopped because of the elections.

The PF district Vice Chairperson stated that the claims from the opposition leaders contesting for the same seat are meant to attract sympathy from the public to gain votes.

�PF did not start doing roads now. This is a government project from long ago even before elections. The Patriotic Front is just carrying out its projects and it has got nothing to do with tomorrow�s elections,� he said.

Sandi said he is confident that the PF has already taken the day and that it will emerge victorious in tomorrow�s Kansuswa ward bye-elections. He said he is confident of winning the ward election because his party has had huge turnouts durring rallies and that the PF has a salable candidate whom the people of Kansunswa ward would definitely choose.

And NDC Mufulira district Chairperson Pride Lombe said that the NDC is confident of scooping tomorrow�s Kansuswa ward bye-elections despite the PF doing roads in the area.

Lombe said the response the NDC is receiving in Kansuswa ward is overwhelming and that not even the PF working on roads could reduce the NDC�s popularity in the area.

�We have spoken to electorates in the area and the response is overwhelming. The people of Kansuswa ward know what they want and nothing will sway their attention from voting for the NDC,� Lombe stated.

The Kansuswa ward seat fell vacant, following the demise of the PF councilor in 2017. Kansuswa ward in Mufulira district is one of the 16 wards in Zambia which will hold Local Government By-Elections tomorrow April 24th, 2018.
