National team return elates Mulai

Red Arrows Women Football Club Midfielder Mary ‘Mulai’ Wilombe has been recalled to the National team set up after being absent since 2017 when Zambia came out 3rd minting Bronze at the 2017 COSAFA Women’s Championship which was hosted by Zimbabwe.

The Red Arrows influential Midfielder is delighted to be back in the National Team squad after being absent for close to three years.

Speaking in an interview with the ZamFoot Crew, Wilombe said that she is happy and excited to make a return to the National team. The Airwoman has set are aim on being part of the final squad.

“I am very happy to have received a call-up back to the National team, it has been long and my target will be to fight for a place in the team, I know it won’t be easy but I have been training hard and I will be one of the best,” Wilombe said.

Wilombe was part of the Zambia Under-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2014 which was hosted by Costa Rica and she went on to feature at the National Team level in a number of games thereby making her be one of the experienced players.

However, she knows that it won’t be easy for her but she has said she will fight for her position.

“Competition will be there, but I believe in myself that I will be in the final team, I will fight back for my position,” She said.

The Copper Queens will enter residential camp this weekend on Sunday, 27th September 2020 as they embark on a journey of a number of engagements starting with the COSAFA Women’s Championship which has been tentatively set for Port Elizabeth from October 19-31.

After the COSAFA the Queens will shift their attention to an international friendly match against Chile on 28th November and 2nd December 2020 as part of the team’s preparation ahead of next year’s Olympics to be staged in Tokyo, Japan where they qualified for a maiden appearance after defying all odds in the Qualifiers.
