Namwala Gets Relief Mealie Meal,Maize

Government, through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- in Namwala district, has distributed the first consignment of relief mealie meal and maize bran to the district.This is in order to mitigate the looming hunger situation in the area.Namwala District was in the last farming season affected by a dry spell experienced in most parts of the country.The First consignment consists of over 4,000 by 12.5 kilogramme bags of mealie meal and over 500 by 22 kg bags of maize bran feed for livestock.Speaking when she received the relief mealie meal and maize bran, Namwala District Commissioner Mary Sakala said the items will mitigate the looming hunger situation in the area.Meanwhile, Namwala District Education Board Secretary -DEBS- Muna Chikuba  commended the government for sending relief mealie meal to the district.Ms. Chikuba added that the provision of relief food will encourage pupils’ attendance in schools as they will have food in their homes.She said the relief mealie meal from DMMU will also help supplement the already existing school feeding programme which is being implemented by government in partnership with the World Food Programme -WFP-meant to reduce absenteeism in rural communities.
