NAMES OF RECRUITED TEACHERS FINALLY OUT

By Sepo Akabondo

There was jubilation this afternoon among successful candidates who have been recruited in the just ended 2022 teacher recruitment exercise.

Hundreds of prospective teachers had earlier gathered outside Zambia Daily Mail and Times of Zambia offices where they were waiting the release of names of successful candidates following an announcement by the Teaching Service Commission yesterday that it has concluded the recruitment process of 30,496 teachers.
A check by Phoenix News at both Zambia Daily Mail and Times of Zambia offices in Lusaka this afternoon found those who have been selected jubilating as the list was released.

Meanwhile, the Special Education Teachers Union is calling on government to specify and outline how many special education teachers from the 30,496 have been recruited in order to promote equity and equality in education.

Union General Secretary Cornelius Chifukwa is concerned that for so many years, special education has been neglected with few teachers being deployed to teach in special education schools and units.

Mr. Chifukwa says a large inclusion of special needs teachers will ensure children with special education needs and disabilities are handled by qualified and specialized teachers who know how to bring out their full potentials.

And Zambia National Union of Teachers Assistant General Secretary Catherine Chilunda has commended government for fulfilling the recruitment process of over 30,000 teachers as this will improve quality education especially in rural areas were most schools are understaffed with a high number pupils.
