Mwepu to miss Brighton trip to Anfield

Chipolopolo midfielder Enock Mwepu is set to miss Brighton and Hove Albion’s trip to Anfield on  Saturday.

Albion head coach Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that the Zambian international is unavailable for Saturday’s English Premier League tie.

Mwepu was knocked out of the Copper Bullets September FIFA window international friendly match against Mali due to medical reasons despite having made the trip to Bamako.

“Adam Lallana trained today with the squad and the first XI. I think he can’t start but he feels good. Tariq Lamptey trained yesterday (Thursday) for the first time. He feels good but I think Lamptey will not be ready to start,” Zerbi  said.

“Enock Mwepu is unavailable. We are waiting for him because he is a big loss for him. Everybody else is okay,” he added.

Mwepu, a long time Liverpool fan, enjoys playing against the Reds especially at Anfield where he made his UEFA Champions League debut in October 2019.

Mwepu again returned to Anfield last season with Brighton in October when he netted a stunner to open his English Premier League goal account

The Seagulls will face off with Liverpool on Saturday, kick-off 3pm, their first game since the 5-2 loss to Leicester City on 4th September.
