Mweetwa’s Choma land scandal: The Council must come out clean – Rainbow

Opposition Rainbow Party in Southern  province has said that its to early to conclude that Choma central UPND member of parliament Cornelius Mweetwa is a culprit in the Choma land scandal before the Council produce documents of the land in question.

Responding to the issue raised by UPND member Joe Muchindu to Zambian Eye on Saturday accusing the Choma law maker of grabbing and personalizing land that was given by the council to construct a modern market and a mini Hospital, Rainbow Party Southern province Chairperson Bernadette Hamweemba said Mweetwa would not just grab that portion of land without the council’s consent therefore it is important to wait for what the council will say.

“Hon.Mweetwa would not just grab the land just like that,i think there was an agreement between him and the council it will be unfair to condemn Mweetwa before seeing the council town clerk and other council staffs, unless there is proof lets wait and see,” says Ms Hamweemba.

Meanwhile UPND Chairperson for Elections Ackson Sejani has said the party will not comment on the matter in question before it is brought forth by the provincial leadership.

He said the National Management has not received any complaint from the provincial leadership of the land scandal in Choma.

Yesterday former aspiring Choma central mp Joe Muchindu threatened to report Choma UPND law maker Cornelius Mweetwa to the Anti Corruption Commission over the land that was earmarked for construction of a modern market and a mini hospital which Mweetwa is alleged to have grabbed and personalized.

Muchindu claims that Mweetwa grabbed a 70 x130 plot number 5040 in New Kalundu.
