Munyaule Market Construction to cost $8m

Government has started the construction of MUNYAULE Market in Lusaka at a cost of 8 million dollars .

Local Government and Rural Development Minister GARY NKOMBO says the multi million dollar market will accommodate over 2,000 marketeers who were recently displaced from the same market.

Mr. NKOMBO says the marketeers who were displaced to pave the way for construction works have been issued offer letters to operate at the new market upon its completion.

He says the contractor, Kaddoura Construction Limited, has already mobilised to start construction at the new market which is estimated to be complete in 16 months.

Speaking when he inspected the construction site, Mr. NKOMBO explained that the project follows a resolution in which a 15-year lease agreement was entered into between Lusaka City Council and the contractor to construct the modern Market.

Mr NKOMBO also emphasised the government’s commitment to modernising markets to ensure a safe and healthy trading environment for vendors and shoppers .

He also directed the Lusaka City Council to expedite the provision of additional toilets and water points within the temporary trading area to enhance conditions for the traders.

And speaking on behalf of the relocated traders, FOSTER CHIBWE expressed gratitude for the government’s initiative to modernize Munyaule Market.

Mr. CHIBWE noted the importance of safe and conducive facilities in averting the outbreak of waterborne diseases in the future.
