MUNIR, FUBE released from detention

By Hannock Kasama

Patriotic Front Chilubi Member of Parliament MULENGA FUBE and LUMEZI Independent parliamentarian MUNIR ZULU have been released after being detained at LUSAKA Magistrate Police Post.

The two were detained yesterday and later released following their failure as sureties to produce fugitive former Presidential Political Advisor KAIZER ZULU before LUSAKA Resident Magistrate MUTINTA MWENYA.

Magistrate MWENYA further fined Mr. FUBE and Mr. ZULU 50,000 KWACHA each for having failed to fulfill their pledge to produce Mr. ZULU before her.

The two parliamentarians are sureties in a matter, where Mr. ZULU is charged with conversion of a motor vehicle contrary to section 291 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the laws of ZAMBIA.

It is alleged that between November 19, 2019 and March 25, 2022 in Lusaka, Mr. ZULU unlawfully and without claim of right, converted to his use a motor vehicle Toyota Land cruiser VX Registration Number GRZ 759CL Valued at 955,000 Kwacha.

However, Mr. ZULU who is now a fugitive, has been relentlessly absconding  trial in the matter since last year, with his sureties Mr. FUBE and Mr. ZULU having been expressing optimism to bring him before the court but to no avail.
