Mulenga scores a brace in Amazulu win

Augustine Mulenga came off the bench to score twice as Amazulu beat Cape town City in the DSTV Premiership match at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday night.

The Zambian forward grabbed both goals in the first half to secure a victory for the Benni McCarthy coached side.

McCarthy made a tactical change in the 17th minute as Mulenga replaced Phalani Zulu, and the Zambian made an instant impact.

Six minutes after his introduction, the 31 year old Lusaka born nodded home off a Thabo Qalinge cross to give Usuthu the lead.

Mulenga made sure Amazulu headed to the break with 2-goal caution after his scored his second of the night from close range in the first half added time.

The win saw the Kwaza-Zulu Natal outfit move to the eighth on the log while Cape Town City is a place below.

This was Mulenga’s fourth appearance on the season in the league.

The former Nkwazi and Zanaco winger has just started 2 matches in the league.

This is his fifth season in the DSTV Premiership having Orlando Pirates from Zanaco in January 2018 after impressing for Zambia at the CHAN tournament.

His best season in the South Africa was the 2020/2021 when he scored 5 goals in 26 appearances for Amazulu.

He has since scored a total of 13 goals in 71 appearances in the PSL.

On the international scene, he last featured for Zambia in the Cosafa Cup in July 2021.

He is not part of the Chipolopolo Boys’ squad for this month’s Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup back to back qualifiers against Mauritania and Tunisia.
