MUBANGA CALLS FOR SUPPORT FROM JAPAN

Acting Minister of Finance ELIAS MUBANGA has called on the Japanese Government to support Zambia’s request for debt restructuring in the official creditor committee discussions.

Mr. MUBANGA says Government is hopeful of a positive outcome owing to the sound economic policies it is putting in place.

The Acting Finance Minister said this during a liaison engagement with a delegation from Japan International Cooperation -JICA- led by Senior Vice President TOSHIYUKI NAKAMURA at the Ministry in Lusaka today.

Mr. MUBANGA said JICA has been supporting Zambia in many sectors such as water, education, energy and infrastructure development.

And Mr. NAKAMURA said Zambia is one of the most important countries to JICA as evidenced by the long standing relations and collaboration.

He said JICA would like to further strengthen its relations with Zambia not only in areas of infrastructure development but also in technical Cooperation.

Meanwhile, Japanese Ambassador to Zambia RYUTA MIZUUCHI said Japan is pleased that the creditors meeting commenced last week and that it will continue to support Zambia in this regard.
