MSEKERA RESEARCH INSTITUTE DISAPPOINTS GOVT

By Christopher Miti

Government is disappointed with the quality of works being done at the Soils Laboratory at Msekera Research Institute in Chipata, Eastern province.

The construction works are being undertaken at a cost of 700,000 dollars, and the project is expected to close in the next One month.

Government contracted Invest-Corp Zambia to build the laboratory and Fungala Company to build the outer part of the laboratory.

Eastern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, BEAUTY PHIRI says it is sad that certain works have NOT been done according to the bill of quantity.

Ms PHIRI noted that the bad works are as a result of lack of proper communication between the contractor and the consultant.

Ms PHIRI was speaking today, when she toured the project to check on the progress.

She has since reprimanded Eastern Province Infrastructure Officer, WILSON CHIFWIMA, for trying to shield the contractors, who are not doing the right thing.

And, Zambia Agriculture Research Institute -ZARI- Principal Soil Scientist, ROBERT SALATI said the contractors have been asked to redo some works, which were not properly done.
