BY LILLIAN KALABA

Mpika Town Council in Muchinga Province has funded fifty Community Based projects at a cost of 13 million Kwacha under the 2022 Constituency Development fund allocation.

MPIKA Town Council Secretary SAMUEL MUSENGA said the approved CDF projects range from procurement of a grader, repair of tipper Truck and completion of various stalled CDF projects.

Speaking during a full council meeting in Mpika Mr. MUSENGE said another 2 million Kwacha has been disbursed by the Local authority in empowerment funds to various youth and women cooperatives in Mpika.

He said the grants were disbursed to the various Mpika Youth and women cooperatives from various wards who were part of the 125 that applied for the 2022 CDF empowerment funds.

Meanwhile some Ward Councilors and the Mpika Town Council Chairman MORGAN MUSOMA are concerned with the failure by communities in Muchinga and Chifungwe wards to apply for the CDF empowerment funds.

Mr. MUSOMA said there is need for more community sensitization on the benefits coming with the CDF funds, a tool being used by the new dawn administration to fight poverty and enhance social development.

And during the same meeting the Council approved the proposed ambitious 54 Million Kwacha Budget Estimates of Expenditure for the year 2023.

The MPIKA Town Council Secretary informed the meeting that part of the funds for the 2023 budget will be generated locally while the other part will come from the equalization fund and the revised lucrative CDF.

This is contained in a statement released to ZNBC News in Kitwe by Mpika Council Public Relations Officer Mushota Mpundu.
