MPENGULA DECLARED SENIOR CHIEF MUSHILI

By Hannock Kasama

The LUSAKA High Court has declared HECTOR MPENGULA as the new Senior Chief MUSHILI of the Lamba people of Masaiti District on the Copperbelt.

This follows the quashing of an injunction against Mr.MPENGULA by JOYCE KATAMPI who claims to be a rightful heir to the throne.

The injunction has been quashed by KITWE High Court Judge JOHN MBUZI.

Justice MBUZI says the injunction has been overtaken by events as Mr. MPENGULA was installed on August 20,2022 while Ms. KATAMPI, filed the application on August 24, 2022.

Ms. KATAMPI contended that she was duly selected as Senior Chieftainess MUSHILI on September 10, 2021 and installed on September 11, 2022.

Ms. KATAMPI sought an injunction against Mr. MPENGULA pursuant to Order 27 of the High Court Rules.

However, Mr. MPENGULA contended that his ascendancy to the throne came after the death of his predecessor KENNETH MPENGULA on April 23 ,2022.

He further stated the appointment of JOYCE KATAMPI as Senior Chieftainess MUSHILI was done without adhering to the BENA-MUSHILI Royal Clan Customs.

He was the first defendant in the matter while JOSEPH MWAMBANA, JESTER KATAMPI and MABLE KATAMPI were second, third and fourth defendants respectively.

Meanwhile in an interview with ZNBC News, JOSEPH MWAMBANA who is also Mr. MPENGULA’s Spokesperson, noted that the court verdict has put to rest the leadership wrangles over the MUSHILI throne.

Mr.MWAMBANA further hinted that new Chief is ready to face JOYCE KATAMPI should she appeal against the High Court’s verdict.
