More secondary schools coming

Government and global partners for education will construct 120 secondary Schools and 440 childhood education centres throughout the country using a grant from the World Bank.

And Western Province will receive 22 secondary Schools and 72 early childhood education centres respectively.

The projects which will be undertaken under the Zambia Education Enhancement Project Additional Financing -ZEEP-AF and the Zambia Enhancing Early Learning-ZEEL- will have a life span of two years at a combined cost of over 270 million dollars.

This was announced at the USHAA school groundbreaking ceremony in Limulunga district to mark the launch of the projects in Western Province today.

And gracing the occasion, Western Province Minister KAPELWA MBANGWETA said once the construction works are completed, several pupils will enroll following the introduction of free education by government.

Speaking at the same function, Limulunga district commissioner DAVID LUTANGU said the facility will come with increased access to secondary school places thereby reducing congestion in schools.

Meanwhile, Western Province Education Officer PEGGY CHILEMA said the construction of schools in the area will come with the training of tutors and various learning materials for pupils to ensure enhanced quality education.

Limulunga District Education Board Secretary SIBESO SILUMESII said the schools should be constructed according to standards.

And Ministry of Education acting Director planning and information RICHARD BANDA who represented ministry of education Permanent Secretary NORIANA MUNEKU thanked the Barotse Royal Establishment- BRE- for taking the lead in ensuring that the project takes shape.

Meanwhile, BRE represented by MWANGELWA AKAPELWA SILUMBU-INDUNA INETE expressed happiness with government’s development agenda for western province.
