Misused Guns To Be Forfeited

The Zambia Police says it will start reassessing those possessing guns and any fire arm being misused will be forfeited to the state, following the emerging gun culture by political party cadres as witnessed in the recent past.

Speaking when she featured on Phoenix FM`s the pulse segment on the Breakfast Show this morning, Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo says the reassessment will be done during the renewal of licences for gun ownership which is a requirement in Zambia.

Mrs Katongo has indicated that most of guns have proper documentation but owners tend to use them for other reasons, a situation she describes as unfortunate.

She says the service is therefore saddened that some guns that were acquired for self-protection are now being used for political violence among other vices.
