BY RUTH CHAYINDA

Labour and Social Security Minister, BRENDA TAMBATAMBA has urged employers and employees to diligently apply the Covid-19 health guidelines to minimize the spread of the pandemic in workplaces.

Ms. TAMBATAMBA says doing so will subsequently minimise disruptions to the operations of the country’s businesses.

She said this during the Tripartite Consultative Labour Council meeting in Lusaka today.

Ms TAMBATAMBA who is also Chairperson for the Council said the new dawn government is committed to reforming the social security system as can be seen through President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s pronouncements and the national budget.

She assured the council that government will not sneak any reforms into Parliament as the process will be inclusive and consultative.

Ms TAMBATAMBA also encouraged the labour movement to work in unity because divisions have the propensity to weaken their voice.

And, Zambia Congress for Trade Unions -ZCTU- president NKOLE CHISHIMBA said there is need for a systematic approach to ensure workers and all vulnerable groups are protected from the adverse impact of Covid-19 .

Mr. CHISHIMBA said the union will raise awareness among its members so that they can get vaccinated to limit the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, Zambia Federation of Employers -ZFE- President MYRA NGOMA said there is need for an aggressive approach to creating an enabling environment to attract investment for employment creation and government participating in businesses in rural areas so
that youth unemployment is addressed.

Meanwhile, International Labour Organisation – ILO- Country Director GEORGE OKHUTO called on workers to get vaccinated to protect themselves from the adverse impact of the Covid 19.
