MINES CHALLENGED

Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu has challenged mining companies to create a favorable business environment for local suppliers and contractors to flourish and stimulate job creation and economic growth.
Mr. Mpundu who was speaking when he addressed local Mine suppliers and contractors in Kitwe said government wants increased level of business from mining companies to local SME’s and that payments must also be timely and consistent to stabilize the region’s economy.
And Earfold Director Bwalya Mafoko appealed to government to deliberately enact a law that will compel Zambians to own fifty one percent shares in any foreign investment.
Mr. Mafoko said this is in line with the empowerment agenda adopted by all countries under the Southern African Development Community SADC to promote job creation and enhance economic growth.
Earlier, Turbo Agencies Chief Executive Officer Mike Tembo Implored government to stand firm on the abolished VAT and implement the revised taxation for the extractive industry.
Mr. Tembo said this because some mining companies were defrauding government of huge sums of money through the abolished VAT.
