Zambia national team coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojeviç says both the coaches and the players did not do enough in the first two Cameroon 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

Micho who was speaking during Diamond TV’s Sports Cafe program on Saturday said the coaches did not do enough technically while the players could have done more.

Micho cited an example of 2 defenders challenging one striker in the 18-yard box leaving Khama Billiat(short player) to score when Zambia lost to Zimbabwe.

“I have divided that failure into two parts. Our players in their facial expression, hand gesture and body posture I did not see the right approach to represent 17 million Zambians,” he said.

“I have analyzed the tactical approach and the technical execution and flare were missing. we have been working on how to put all the puzzles together so that we go where we want to go (AFCON 2021),” he added.

The former Uganda Cranes gaffer feels what was good during the tenure of his predecessor needs to be kept while what was wrong needs to be improved drastically.

“What was good needs to be kept and upgraded and what was wrong needs to be really corrected,” he said.

We need to make our players believe that we are capable and able. We have four games and 12 points to fight for but their facial expressions and body language need to change

Micho has been tasked with the job of guiding Zambia to their first AFCON appearance in five years after missing out on the 2017 and 2019 editions. He was also bee in charge of the CHAN squad and the World Cup qualifiers.

The Serbian gaffer has over 18 years experience of working in African football and since his arrival in Africa as a budding coach back in 2001, he has won five championships in Uganda, eight in Ethiopia and one title each in Tanzania, Sudan and Egypt, which adds up to 16.

Currently, football is on hold due to the worldwide outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus.
