In an effort to support all medical doctors who are affected by Covid-19 at all stages of care from prevention to treatment, Neria`s Investment Limited has contributed medical and diagnostic tools worth K500, 000 towards the Medical Association of Zambia `Care for Care Giver Initiative`.

The care for caregiver initiative which has a projected budget of $150,000 is aimed at building capacity within the association to support the treatment of medical doctors that fall ill in the line of duty.

Speaking during the handover ceremony of the medical and diagnostic tools which include glucometers and oximeters in Lusaka today, Medical Association of Zambia Secretary-General Dr. Masiku Phiri explained that studies have shown that medical doctors are 3 times more likely to contract Covid-19 compared to the general public and 7 times likely to develop severe diseases due to their occupational setting hence the decision to launch the care for caregiver initiative`.

Dr. Phiri says the Association has continued to see members falling ill from occupational exposure to Covid-19 with many paying the ultimate price of death adding that the association will not relent to ensuring such a situation is prevented.

At the same event, Neria`s Investment Limited General Manager Martin Chaikatisha emphasized the need for all stakeholders to join hands with the government in providing both technical and financial support towards the emergency response mechanisms to covid-19.

Mr. Chaikatisha is hopeful that the donation will go a long way in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in the country and also in helping medical doctors execute their work efficiently.
