Mealie Meal Smuggling affects Supply in Chipata

Eastern Province Minister Peter Phiri has urged people in the province to be vigilant and help the government curb the smuggling of mealie meal.

Mr. Phiri says it is unfortunate that some citizens are aiding smugglers.

He was speaking when he flagged off the milling and distribution of mealie meal by Rainbow milling which has entered into a partnership with the Zambia National Service.

Under this partnership, Rainbow milling is supplied with maize by ZNS to produce ZNS Eagle brand mealie meal that is then supplied to outlets and sold at K230.

Rainbow milling company Director Ayyub Patel says his company has made a commitment to mill 2000 tonnes of maize in the next one month.

Meanwhile, ZNS Eastern region deputy commander Lieutenant Colonel Mabvuto Banda says several outlets have already started receiving the ZNS Eagle branded mealie meal.
