Mealie meal prices can drop further – FRA

By Ruth Chayinda

The Food Reserve Agency- FRA- says the price of mealie meal will slowly start reducing further as the Agency releases more maize to Millers.

FRA Acting Executive Director MWANSA CHAMATETE says so far FRA has sold about 130 thousand metric tonnes of maize at a cost of 520 million kwacha to millers across the country.

Mr. CHAMATETE says with the continued interaction with millers, the price can continue going down.

He said this in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.

And Mr. CHAMATETE said the Agency has sold over nine thousand metric tonnes of maize to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- at a cost of 36 million kwacha.

He said the agency allocated 50 thousand metric tonnes of maize for the DMMU to mitigate the challenges that some of the flood victims are faced with.

Mr. CHAMATETE said seven provinces have so benefited from the maize sold to DMMU.
