MAYOR CALLS FOR AWARENESS ON MENSTRUAL STIGMA
By Machpherson Mukuka
Lusaka Mayor CHILANDO CHITANGALA has called for increased awareness on menstrual stigma against school girls.
Ms. CHITANGALA says majority of young girls in school still suffer from menstrual related stigma due to lack of knowledge of menstrual health and hygiene.
Speaking during the launch of the Menstrual Health Integrating Sanitation and Hygiene -MESH- project, Ms. CHITANGALA said there is need to provide menstrual health related facilities to help the girl child stay in school.
And, Adventist Development and Relief Agency -ADRA- Country Director KENNEDY HABASIMBI said the organization has secured funds to pilot the MESH project in 5 schools in Lusaka.
He said the project has been necessitated by the lack of menstrual health facilities and poor waste management at the targeted schools.
