MARITIME WORKERS ASSURED OF JOB SECURITY

Government has assured employees in the Department of Maritime and Inland Waterways under the Ministry of Transport and Logistics that no one will lose their job as the Ministry moves them to local authorities.

Transport and Logistics Minister FRANK TAYALI says government is devolving a number of functions to local authorities among them Transport and Logistics services which includes harbors.

Addressing workers under Bwangweulu Water Transport in Samfya, Mr. TAYALI said government will not disadvantage any employee and is preparing for those that may wish to separate from the institution.

He said a number of employees from Central government will be attached to councils with personal to holder salaries.

And Mr. TAYALI said there is urgent need to complete the maritime infrastructure projects as they will help to safeguard passengers.

Earlier, Chief KASOMA BANGWEULU the seventh of Samfya appealed to the Minister to improve the harbor at Bangweulu Water Transport.

Chief KASOMA BANGWEULU also appealed to the Minister to introduce patrols on water to avoid accidents and loss of life on water.
