MANY UNAWARE OF HEPATITIS

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Kennedy Malama says an estimated 95-percent of people living with hepatitis are unaware of their status.Dr. Malama has described the situation as worrisome.He has attributed the situation to lack of awareness and access to testing services.Dr. Malama has also pointed out that the disease claims 3-Thousand Six Hundred lives daily worldwide.He however notes that government is working at improving the opportunities for prevention, testing and treatment.Dr. Malama was speaking in Lusaka during the Commemoration of the 2019 World Hepatitis Day under the theme ‘ Invest in Eliminating Hepatitis.’And World Health Organisation -WHO Country Representative Nathan Bakyaita has commended government for developing the Implementation Framework and Clinical Guidance for Viral Hepatitis Prevention and Treatment policy document.He said this in a speech read for him by his representative Dr. Lastone Chitembo.
