Many Local Contractors And Suppliers Remain Unpaid For Stalled Government Projects

By Michael Kaluba

Numerous local contractors and allied suppliers remain unpaid for stalled government projects dating as far back as 2012 with some among those unpaid having used their own resources to fund projects up to the stage developed to.

The Consortium of Local Contractors and Allied Suppliers has since called on the newly appointed minister of infrastructure Charles Milupi for a comprehensive stock-taking and audit into stalled government projects to compound how much the state owes contractors and possibly resume works for completion.

Consortium Chairperson John Chilupula tells Phoenix News that the numerous government projects that were shelved while others stalled should be resumed after the audit to ensure completion before any attempts are made on new projects.

Mr. Chilupula is of the view that while it is logical that government does not commence any new projects due to fiscal challenges, stalled priority infrastructure projects such as hostels at UNZA and CBU and hospitals be completed so that government pays what is owed.
