Mangango By-Election Set for Nov 20

Political parties will have an opportunity to spar again during the Mangango parliamentary by-election next month with the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) announcing dates.

The ECZ has announced that by-elections for the Mangango seat and four local government wards will be held on November 20.

“Notice is hereby given to the general public that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has prescribed Tuesday, 20th November, 2018 as the date on which to hold the Council Chairperson’s Election for Lupososhi District and Parliamentary by-election in Mangango Constituency of Kaoma District,” the circular from ECZ stated.

“On the same date, the Commission will also conduct Four (4) Local Government by-elections in Chisanga Ward of Ngabwe, Lusinde Ward of Petauke District, Nkhanka Ward in Chama District and Tumvwanganai Ward of Solwezi.”

The election in Lupososhi is as a result of the creation of the new district, while the by-election in Mangango Constituency (Kaoma District) and Nkhanka ward has been necessitated following the death of the incumbent Member of Parliament and councillor.

The vacancies in Chisanga, Lusinde and Tumvanganai are as a result of resignations and deaths of councillors.

UPND’s Member of Parliament for Mangango Constituency, Naluwa Mweene died on August 29 in a road traffic accident.
