Man drowns in Kafue river after the canoe he was paddling was hit by a hippo.

A 29-YEAR-OLD MAN drowned in Kafue river after the canoe he was paddling was hit by a hippo.

Kafue Acting District Commissioner Joseph Kamana confirmed this to ZANIS in Kafue.

Mr. Kamana said the man met his fate around 12:00 hours when his boat was hit by the hippo on Kafue river.

He named the deceased as Shadreck Ngosa of Kafue’s Zambia Compound

He said the body of the late Ngosa has since been retrieved and deposited in Kafue district hospital mortuary awaiting burial.

Mr. Kamana said the hippo has since been located and wildlife officers are currently working towards hunting the beast.

In another development, three people sustained injuries in an accident that happened at Suzi area in Kafue district on Monday at 19:20 hours along the Lusaka road.

Mr. Kamana said the accident happened when a Toyota Gaia vehicle, registration number AEB 589, hit into the trailer wheels of a Volvo truck.

The Toyota Gaia was driven by a 33-year-old Morris Ndhlovu of Chirundu who was driving to Lusaka while the truck was driven by 30-year-old Peter Daka of Lusaka.

The Acting District Commissioner further said the victims were rushed to Kafue district hospital.

And Kafue District Acting Medical Officer, Chiza Simpungwe confirmed that the hospital had received the body of the late Shedrick Ngosa which is currently in the hospital mortuary awaiting burial.

Dr. Simpungwe also confirmed that the health institution attended to the victims of the accident who were later referred to the University Teaching Hospital for further medication.
