Man dies after drowning in the Chamba Valley Dam

A 35 YEAR OLD man of Lusaka’s Kaunda Square area has died by drowning in the Chamba Valley dam behind the Zambia National Service.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo who confirmed the development to Mwebantu in Lusaka has also named the deceased as Mathews Kasanda.

Katongo says the incident happened on Thursday 28th September 2016 while the body was only retrieved over the weekend.

She says at the same day of drowning, police officers and fire brigade officers undertook an operation to retrieve the body but the efforts were fruitless.

“We then deployed police officers at the dam to keep vigil and they spotted the body floating,”Katongo says.

Katongo also says the body has since been retrieved and postmortem was conducted from the site.

Meanwhile the body has been handed over to relatives for burial.
