Mama Kankasa Dies

Veteran freedom fighter Mama Chibesa Kankasa has died.

Mama Kankasa died today in South Africa after an illness.

Mama Kankasa was evacuated by Government for specialised medical treatment two weeks ago.

Her death has been confirmed by Information Minister Dora Siliya.

Mama Kankasa was a firebrand during the Kenneth Kaunda’s UNIP era, serving as Chairperson of the Women’s League and as member of the Central Committee, which at the time was the highest policy making body within the government.
