MAHOGANY TO FLY MUCHINGA

Mahogany Airlines will extend its air services to Muchinga Province targeting Chinsali and Nakonde districts.
Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Jobbicks Kalumba disclosed this when he addressed heads of departments, the business community and other stakeholders in Nakonde district.
Dr. Kalumba said the Department of Civil Aviation has just completed works on the upgrade of Nakonde airstrip located in Mwenzo about 15 kilometers from the Central Business District.
He said only few facilities are remaining to be put in place at Mwenzo Airstrip while works on the upgrade of Chinsali airstrip are also in progress.
Dr. Kalumba said Mahogany Airlines management is ready to extend air services between Lusaka and Nakonde as soon as the Airstrips meets the standards.
The Permanent Secretary appealed to the business community in the province to take advantage of the airline to boost their businesses.
And Acting Muchinga Provincial Aviation officer Maxwell Sikanyiti said the upgraded Mwenzo Airstrip can accommodate a 16 -seater passenger plane.
He also noted the need to expand the 1.4 kilometer runway to accommodate larger aircrafts.
And Nakonde Council Chairperson Patrick Singoyi said the extension of air services to the district will improve the profile of the town.
Meanwhile Josephat Chitimbwa, a local businessman, said Nakonde was currently receiving over 30 buses daily from Copperbelt, Lusaka and Luapula provinces.
